Memo! What you need to know about the flu

Center for Preventive Medicine of the Main Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Kirovograd region informs that among the infectious diseases that are officially registered in Ukraine, the flu and acute respiratory viral infections in the total amount of more than 90%. Every year, almost every sixth resident of Ukraine gets sick with acute respiratory viral infections and influenza. The causative agent of influenza is a virus that is not resistant in the external environment, which dies in a few minutes in fresh air, when boiled, almost instantly by disinfectants.

According to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine for the past week (11-17.11.2019) 150 832 people fell ill with ARI, of which 67.3% are children. Intensity rate of morbidity is 394.4 per 100,000 population, which is 17.3% less than the epidemic threshold in Ukraine. Four cases of influenza-like illness and 41 cases of severe acute respiratory infection have been registered. In the country recorded sporadic geographic distribution of influenza.During the reporting week not a single fatality due to influenza.

Influenza is an acute infectious disease, the source of infection is a sick person. Especially contagious is the infected person with influenza in the midst of the disease, in a febrile state. The period of infection lasts on average 4-7 days. Transmission occurs mainly by airborne droplets, but the contact route is also relevant.

Symptoms of the disease: sudden increase in body temperature above 38ºC, sore throat, headache, cough, shortness of breath, muscle pain, sometimes vomiting, diarrhea.

How to prevent getting the flu:
- Avoid contact with people who have manifestations of influenza infection;
- Limit visits to crowded places;
- constantly ventilate the room and carry out wet cleaning;
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, as they are possible entry points for the pathogen.
- Avoid hugging, kissing or shaking hands;
- cover your nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing with a disposable nasal napkin, which should be disposed of immediately after use;
- if a person has flu symptoms, you should stay at least two meters away from that person;
- it is necessary to wash hands often with soap and water, follow the rules of personal hygiene;
- renunciation of bad habits, hardening the body, a rational diet.

The main protection against the flu and the prevention of complications from the development of the disease is the flu vaccination.
