Specialists of the infection control department together with the hospital staff (including the outpatient clinic) joined in raising awareness of HIV/AIDS and drew attention to preventing the threat of infection and reducing the spread of AIDS.

In the manipulation room, they discussed the sequence of actions during blood sampling, and emphasized to the nurses the need to observe safety in handling sharp objects during the puncture for blood sampling, hygienic hand treatment with antiseptic during the procedure, use of personal protective equipment, rules for medical waste management, storage and transportation of blood samples for testing.

We drew the attention of the laboratory staff to the stages of detection of antibodies to the human immunodeficiency virus when using rapid tests for the qualitative determination of antibodies in patient blood samples.

Patients were reminded of the dangers of HIV/AIDS, clinical manifestations, symptoms and stages of HIV infection of the immune, nervous, lymphatic and other body systems, as well as statistics on the incidence in the country, ways of infection and methods of prevention.

We focused our attention with dentists on the sequence of actions during dental care and dental procedures that are usually associated with blood, which is the environment containing the virus. The emphasis was placed on the following points: preparation of the workplace, selection of necessary materials and products, hygienic hand treatment, use of personal protective equipment, and medical waste management.
