Psychosomatic manifestations of anxiety in military personnel

Fear and anxiety are an integral part of our lives. They can occur as a response to stressful situations, but when these emotions become excessive and long-lasting, they can affect our physical health. This relationship between the mental and physical state is called psychosomatics. Constant tension of the nervous system leads to stress-related diseases (somatic and mental).

Psychologists and Psychiatrists provide psychological, psychiatric, psycho-prophylactic and psycho-corrective assistance to military personnel who are being treated at the "TMO of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Kirovohrad region".

Psychosomatic manifestations of anxiety in the military can be particularly severe due to stressful situations and high risk to physical and mental health.

Somatic disturbances can mask somatic symptoms of anxiety, namely: increased heart rate, sweating, shortness of breath, nausea, throat congestion, constant fatigue and feeling weak, headache, muscle tension, sleep problems, including restless sleep or insomnia and on the contrary, somatic manifestations of anxiety mask somatic pathology, which complicates their early diagnosis. An important diagnostic criterion for anxiety states, in contrast to somatic ones, are more pronounced mental and behavioral disorders, which are called "Anxiety Masks". Various methods, tests and questionnaires are used to objectify and standardize the assessment of the patient's mental state. The use of additional techniques allows to optimize diagnosis, treatment tactics and assessment of the dynamics of the patient's mental state.

Strategies to overcome anxiety:

Breathing and relaxation – practice deep breathing and relaxation techniques.

Physical Activity – Regular physical activity can help release endorphins and reduce anxiety.

Sleep – follow a regular sleep schedule and create a comfortable sleep environment.

Psychotherapy – See a psychotherapist or psychiatrist for professional psychological support and treatment.

Drug therapy - in some cases, a doctor's prescription of drugs to control anxiety may be indicated.

It is important to pay attention to your emotional health and use strategies to overcome anxiety. Pay attention to your emotions, learn to understand them and seek professional support to solve the problem.
