Contraindications to psychological rehabilitation of military personnel

The large-scale armed aggression against Ukraine and the hostilities that have been taking place in recent years have a negative impact on the physical and mental health of the combatants. Under these conditions, the psyche of military personnel functions at the limit of their own mental capabilities, and prolonged participation in hostilities can cause the development of post-traumatic stress disorders.

The analysis, comparison, generalization, systematization and interpretation of the obtained data made it possible to determine contraindications to the psychological rehabilitation of servicemen after completing tasks in combat conditions.

Psychologists of the center create a group of enhanced psychological attention (GPPU) for the purpose of differentiated distribution of psychoprophylaxis measures. Based on the results of psychodiagnostic testing, analysis of anamnestic data and criteria of individual clinical and psychological examination of servicemen, servicemen with signs of borderline mental disorder (BMD) are monitored. These are military personnel who have clear clinical signs of mental pathology of a non-psychotic level, which make up the so-called "nosological group" of borderline mental illnesses (neuroses, neurotic-like and psychopathic states of various genesis, neurotic and hidden "disguised", somatized depressions, exogenous-organic and somatogenically caused neuropsychiatric disorders, etc.). This group of disorders involves a significant reduction or even a temporary loss of working capacity, and persons with ADR need timely highly qualified medical (psychiatric and psychotherapeutic) assistance. Also, risk factors are hereditary predisposition to mental disorders and alcoholism, the presence of episodes of use of narcotic and psychoactive substances, a state of long-term psycho-emotional stress, the combined influence of situational psychogenic factors and somatic burden, the presence of anomalies and personality accentuations.

This group of soldiers is primarily shown to carry out medical treatment, so-called clinical (medical) rehabilitation for the restoration and development of the physiological functions of the injured serviceman, identification of his compensatory capabilities, elimination of the pathological process, prevention of complications, restoration or partial compensation of lost functions. In the future, it is psychological rehabilitation that gives positive results and is productive, as part of the general rehabilitation complex (along with medical, professional, social), aimed at restoring lost (disrupted) mental functions, optimal working capacity, social activity, restoration (correction) of self-esteem and social status

As a result, we have the optimization of the psycho-emotional state of servicemen through emotional support and attention to their experiences, which help to make an informed decision and evaluate psychological resources regarding the desired behavioral changes; awareness of the influence of stress factors, expansion of self-awareness and improvement of psychological competence, change of attitude towards the problem, increase of stress and crisis tolerance, responsibility, assimilation of new behavior patterns.
