October 15 - World Handwashing Day

Specialists joined the celebration of World Handwashing Day.

Dirty hands are a factor in the transmission of a whole spectrum of infectious and parasitic diseases, including dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid, cholera, rotavirus infections, worm infestations, acute respiratory diseases, viral pneumonia, poliomyelitis. More than 80% of infectious diseases are transmitted through dirty hands.

The "dirtiest" objects inhabited by microorganisms with which our hands are constantly in contact are: stair railings, elevator buttons, door handles, handrails in motor vehicles, banknotes, shopping baskets, cash register screens (terminals), telephones, keyboards, computer mice, etc.

Statistics show that those who should teach children and be a personal example, only 20% wash their hands before cooking, less than 75% of women and less than 50% of men wash their hands after using the toilet.

Wash your hands regularly with soap in the following cases:

- at the beginning and end of the day;

- before eating;

- before and after visiting the toilet;

- after contact with animals;

- after visiting public places and public transport;

- when the hands are clearly dirty.

Follow five rules:

Collect enough liquid soap to cover the entire surface of the hands (1 ml.)
Do not skip the areas between the fingers, the tips of the fingers, the back of the hands and the base of the thumb.
Wash your hands intensively for 40-60 seconds.
Wipe hands dry. Use paper towels for this.
It is also worth using paper towels to turn off the faucet and turn the door handle. After all, it is precisely on them that a large number of bacteria accumulates, which reduce all your efforts to zero.
Remember also that wet wipes, even antibacterial ones, cannot replace hand washing with soap.
